Civils for new electricity connections

Rospower Projects delivers the civil works that prepare a site for a new electricity connection: cable routes, ducts, joint bays, substation bases and reinstatement. We work with Independent Connection Providers (ICPs), main contractors and developers on residential and commercial developments across the UK.

Anstey Lane, Alton

For the Meadow Vale residential development, Rospower Projects delivered a network installation with approximately 380 metres of waveform cable and 14 residential connections. The package included excavation, traffic management under two-way portable signals, and reinstatement along the live highway.

Aycliffe Road, Borehamwood

The Aycliffe Road installation included approximately 75 metres of waveform cable, nine residential connections and a three-phase supply for a community centre. The works required a road closure, a signed diversion and coordination around a neighbouring school and surgery, followed by footway and carriageway reinstatement.

What the civil works package can include

Cable trenching and duct installation

• Excavation for LV and HV cable routes, with service crossings and access requirements identified in the agreed scope
• Duct installation, draw pits and joint bays to the connection design
• Backfilling, compaction and reinstatement of the affected surfaces

Substation bases and external works

• Reinforced concrete substation bases, transformer plinths and switchroom foundations
• Access hardstanding, drainage and fencing around the compound
• Interfaces with the wider warehouse groundworks or data centre civils package

Highway works and site access

Where the cable route crosses a highway or footway, the package needs to account for traffic management, pedestrian access, permits and reinstatement. Our Alton and Borehamwood cases show this work in live highway settings. We establish the required approvals and who is responsible for obtaining them when agreeing the scope.

Working with your ICP

For accredited electricity connection delivery, Rospower Projects works in partnership with UK Power Connections Ltd. NERS accreditation for this delivery route is held through UK Power Connections. The applicable accredited scopes and responsibilities are confirmed for each package.

The civils scope should sit alongside named responsibilities for connection design, electrical installation, jointing, testing, adoption and energisation. We agree these interfaces with your project team and connection provider so that the enquiry and quotation describe the work required.
